49- A Saint History ..

Saint Lazarus Church, Larnaca

Feeling like a bird in the sky but also imagine your breath being taking away from a sober wonderful place to visit in the historical time of our living century, it was like that for me a moment of peace and spiritual value.
My visit to The "Church of Saint Lazarus" made my day. It is a late 9th century church, a Greek Orthodox Church. It is named for New Testament figure Lazarus of Bethany, the subject of a miracle recounted in the Gospel of John, in which Jesus raised him from the dead.
According to Orthodox tradition, sometime after the Resurrection of Christ, Lazarus was forced to flee Judea because of rumored plots on his life and came to Cyprus.
He is said to have lived for thirty more years and on his death was buried there for the second and last time. The Church of Agios Lazarus was built over the reputed second tomb of Lazarus.
As I enter the Church, was surprised to find a child baptism ceremony, but happy to attend and pray some hymns with the choir people that I know some of Byzantines Lyrics.
The Church is an elongated building and the porch bears traces of Greek, Latin and French inscriptions.
Some of the icons were painted towards the end of the 18th century, and some of the wood-carved furniture and icons of the walls are from the 17th century.
As I visit downstairs the tomb then go after that outside to see if the museum was open but it was closed, so decide to return to the hotel after my tour and to enjoy a great afternoon.
